This will be the third attempt to create a television series based on The World of Cruel Intentions (1999)
Chronology
After a harrowing incident at their elite college, siblings Caroline and Lucien attempt to maintain their power and reputation by seducing the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. The direct-to-video sequel, Cruel Intentions 2 (2000), in which Amy Adams replaced Sarah Michelle Gellar as Catherine Mertel, was originally a scripted series before being adapted into a feature film.
It follows Cruel Intentions (1999)
Gellar would later reprise her role as Catherine in the NBC pilot Cruel Intentions (2016), which was not ordered to series, in 2016. The show is actually very well written and very much a reflection of college campuses today.
The plot lines are engaging
As for the lack of representation on a college campus and how white it is, it’s because they show exactly what these elite sororities and fraternities are really like. The sarcasm and humor are great in each of the characters.
And I really enjoy the character development, if they had just tried to make a 1999 Cruel Intentions remake, it would have been so unoriginal, and this version does a good job of crafting a completely different story
The people who are badmouthing it clearly wanted a true retelling of a cult classic, but this show is in no way trying to be an iconic film, it draws inspiration from each of the OG characters and creates a modern version of the archetypes in a college campus setting. Incredibly entertaining.
And the modern Cece is great, she’s lovably manic
Caroline’s character isn’t as attractive, unlikable, yet iconic biopic as she was in the movie, and she actually has some backstory, and I’m here for it. I love it and hope there will be a second season.
