The story of American photographer Lee Miller, a model turned Vogue magazine’s respected war correspondent during World War II. the only authorized biography of Lee Miller’s life, written by his own son Anthony Penrose, was published in 1985. Miller is denied access to Hitler’s apartment because it is “officials only”.

" War correspondents were given the rank of captain, so technically a US Army guard should have granted him access. Lee Miller: [Handing the knife to the girl he’s just saved from rape] Next time cut it off.. The closing credits are something "what happened" commentary; and some of Lee’s original photographs, often alongside those recreated for the film.
I’ve seen a few reviews that seem quite dismissive of Lee’s scope and importance
But if you know about the limited freedom of women during this period, you will fully appreciate the bravery and productivity on offer here. Personal trauma abandoned Lee to do good with her hard-fought freedoms to operate in a man’s world. Lee has all the period costuming and historical accuracy, which is no small feat, while showing sheer determination to achieve.

People back home in the US didn’t exactly believe in the horrors of the Holocaust, and certainly not in the numbers. It was Lee’s undeniably brave journey that brought back unmistakable proof and testimony of evil’s place in history. Knowing that certain things like this cannot be overlooked personally gives empathy for the cost of doing photojournalism.
Many are martyred on the job while working when they are captured or imprisoned in authoritarian regimes
But in this case, survival seems to have a lasting effect on the way one performs such an important task.
